The journey to Santiago and the end of the world

With a sabbatical for July and August 2026 now within reach, I can

+ attend the Tour de France on July 9th in the Pyrenees

+ see the eclipse in northern Spain

I have immediately an idea:

I could start at home with my bike. After a stop close to the Tourmalet I can continue my travel to Santiago and see afterwards the ecliplse in norther Spain. After the eclipe which also my cycling friends would like to see, we could mak a small trip in the Pyrenees. Afterwards my family would like to continue with a holiday at the Atlantic see close to Arcachon, conitnueing with Bordeaux and Perigord.Probably they take me home from there.

Using AI, I found out that I have to start latest 21st June from home.

My brother would like to cycle with me to the lake of Constance

So let me plan the roadmap:

Regensburg – Markdorf- Genf- Lyon – Tolouse: ~ 1400 km

Tolouse – Arras-en-Lavedan ~ 200 km

There is the house of my colleague Denis, where the Tour de France will pass by closely on July 9th.

Tourmalet- Pamplona – Burgos – Leon- Santiago , ~ 1000 km

Santiago – Finistère ~ 80 km

Finistère – Gijon – Vittoria-Gasteiz ~ 850 km

Latest there my racing bike team will join me. They want to pass trough the Pyrenees from the Mediterean Sea to the Atlantic starting from 4th of August. We agreed to meet 11th of August at Vitoria-Gasteiz to watch the sun eclipse the day after. If I have additional time left, maybe I can meet them earlier, probalby at Pamplona.

Vittoria-Gasteiz – St. – Arcachon ~ 350 km

At St. Jean de Luz, my friends will take the train home and I will continue to Arcachon to meet my family there on August 16th.

In sum around 4000 km

I would appreiate if you want to join me for some days - just let me know!
